WellStar Atlanta Medical Center (AMC) is a non-profit 762-bed hospital and part of the Wellstar hospital network. AMC serves Fulton County, Georgia and the surrounding area with two Atlanta locations. AMC is a diverse learning environment, one that came into existence more than one hundred years ago as Georgia Baptist Hospital. AMC is one of two Level One trauma centers in the metro Atlanta area. Currently, AMC treats about two hundred (200) trauma patients a month, with an average daily census for the entire hospital around 600 patients. Sixty of those beds are for adult intensive care, and thirty are for the neo-natal ICU. AMC is a certified stroke center and also specializes in Bariatric care. General Medicine, Surgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Labor and Delivery, Cardiology, Behavioral Health, Bloodless Medicine, and Neurology, are among the medical services rendered at AMC for the general public. Chaplains visit the Forensic unit for State and Federal inmates only when requested by the patient, as is true for incarcerated women who are brought to AMC to deliver their babies.
